Health and safety

The health and safety of our people, the partners with whom we work and the communities in which we operate are top priorities for En+. Our culture of safety in the workplace aims to ensure we do everything we can to minimise risk and guarantee the safety of our workforce, learning from the past and preventing future accidents.

Our health and safety activities are carried out through a company-wide approach, following best practice models and regulations which are developed by our dedicated Human Resources team. Monthly, quarterly and annual reports are produced by the Group’s companies and used to monitor the implementation of health and safety targets, allowing us to constantly improve across the Group. The Group's companies operate systems for the management of industrial safety and occupational health and safety (OHS), and have established business units responsible for production control, industrial safety, OHS and the environment. In addition, the companies operate industrial control commissions for OHS and industrial safety.

On a yearly basis, the Group's companies develop and approve comprehensive plans for measures in the sphere of industrial safety and OHS. Alongside this, a number of companies in the Group are adopting production control programmes to ensure compliance with health and safety laws.

Key performance indicators

Key performance indicators are approved annually by En+ and are set at a company-wide level. The KPIs are handed down to the management level of each company in the Group, and their implementation is tracked on an ongoing basis. The performance monitoring system for meeting planned targets includes monthly, quarterly and annual reports, which are used as a basis for assessing the progress of the approved business plans, both at individual company level, and across the Group.

The Group has been focused on reducing injuries, implementing the principles of our health and safety principles and developing a Talent Pool programme, and retraining employees in occupational health and safety and industrial safety in all the Group's companies. We also have in place plans to develop new interactive educational modules that will increase learning achievement levels with regard to the occupational health and safety training.

Key measures taken by the Group to ensure OHS and industrial safety:

  • Control measurements to monitor the harmful factors of the production environment;
  • Diagnostics and technical inspection of technological flow charts and process equipment;
  • Modernisation of material and technical facilities;
  • Special assessment of working conditions;
  • Planned and unplanned checks for compliance with OHS and industrial safety requirements in the workplace;
  • Induction and planned briefings on OHS and safe production processes;
  • Annual testing of workers' knowledge of OHS and industrial safety;
  • Quarterly selective training for production facility workers;
  • Analysis of detected violations;
  • Development of measures to prevent violations of OHS and industrial safety requirements.

Education

Education is at the heart of our business. Through our training processes and external sponsorship initiatives we seek to nurture future talent and encourage the adoption of new skills.

En+ currently sponsors the “New Generation School” and “RoboTechnology” projects in Irkutsk, Angarsk, Bratsk, Sorsk and other schools and universities to develop the new engineering elite in Russia. Talented students and post-graduates from eastern Siberian universities receive scholarships from En+ and are trained at the world’s best engineering universities.

New Generation school

In partnership with Oleg Deripaska’s ‘Volnoe Delo’ charitable foundation, En+ Group has launched the ‘New Generation School’ programme in the regions where it operates. This programme has been developed by experts at ‘Volnoe Delo’ and is part of the list of official school programmes approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The programme is aimed at changing attitudes towards education, approaches to training and student thinking. The main targets and values of the new schools are independence, self-determination and self-training. The initiative, started in 2012, is currently being rolled out in the following schools:

  • Secondary School of General Education No. 80, Irkutsk;
  • Irkutsk College of Energy, Irkutsk;
  • Gymnasium No. 8, Angarsk;
  • Secondary School of General Education No. 40, Angarsk;
  • Lyceum No. 1, Bratsk;
  • Secondary School of General Education, Zhireken (Transbaikalia);
  • Sorsk School, Sorsk (Khakassia).
